Highlights of the Golden Disk Awards in Japan

Super Junior once again proved their kingly status by securing the place as THE Korean boy band in the business by walking away with an impressive four wins at the Golden Disk Awards held a few days ago on January 11th. The boys picked up the MSN Japan Award, Popularity Award, Bonsang Award and the highest honour, the Daesang Award.

These boys have sure come a long way since their breakout single, "Sorry Sorry" which led them to global success. Since then, these boys have gone on a music rampage, topping charts, winning awards and selling their music like crazy, all the while winning girls' hearts everywhere

'KARA' also picked up the Best Hallyu Star award while 'Rainbow' and 'INFINITE' took home the Hallyu Icon award that night.

With some 24,000 Japanese fans in attendance, on the following evening, the second and final night of the 26th annual K-pop music ceremony, fellow company siblings of Super Junior, Girls' Generation followed suit by winning the night's top award for their album, "The Boys".

While the January 11's installment was devoted to recognizing the number of hard-copy album sales by artists, the final night centered on awarding artists with the most electronically downloaded albums. SM Entertainment were made proud those two nights when their boy band, 'Super Junior' took the grand prize for nonelectronic album sales on the first night and consequently on day two, the tables were turned with all-girl group 'Girls’ Generation' receiving the top award. 

The K-POP girl group took home the coveted grand prize for “The Boys” and also won the main award the album. Some 487,585 copies of the record have been sold on various music Web portals such as Melon, Olleh Music, Soribada, Cyworld and Bugs. This is the third consecutive year that the nine-member girl group took home the grand prize at the Golden Disk Awards. 

“We want to thank everyone who helped us along the way and we promise that this is just the beginning,” said a tearful Seohyun on behalf of all the members who were visibly emotional as they took the stage to claim their awards. 

Recipients of the other main prizes that night were 'Miss A' for “Good Bye Baby”, '4Minute' for “Mirror Mirror”, 'G.Na' for “Black And White”, 'Sistar' for “So Cool”, Secret for “Star Light Moon Light”, K.Will for “Heartbeat” and CNBLUE for “Intuition”.

Other K-POP stars awarded on the night included Huh Gak, Boyfriend, B2ST, FT Island and Cho Shin Sung. The three-hour ceremony was hosted by Suzy of Miss A and Lee Hong-gi of FT Island. Some 500 Hallyu stars graced the shores of Japan thatwonderful evening to perform at the event.
