Traditional Food Festival

By Izyaan Amin.

Traditional Food Festival. In conjunction with Brunei's 28th National Day celebration in PTEK, the Cooking & Baking Club held the 'Pesta Makanan Tradisional Brunei' featuring a showcase of local cuisine and cooking demonstrations done by the students.

The traditional food display which took place at the canteen area featured a wide range of Brunei delicacies such as TAPAI, KELUPIS, WAJIT, APAM, PIPIS, KUIH RANGIN, PENYARAM and AMBUYAT. The highlight of the showcase was the cooking demo where other students were able to learn about how to make some of the traditional delicacies. This include how to wrap a Kelupis using 'nyirik' leaves, how to make the simply delicious KUIH GATAS and the ever so popular PAIS DAGING, and even a display of Ambuyat-making or as we call it, 'menumpah Ambuyat'. Besides honoring our traditon and culture, teachers and other students were able to enjoy tasting these traditional delicacies that are cooked using the traditional recipes .

In this modern world, some of the traditional food in Brunei are fading or have already been forgotten. It is up to us to keep up the good old tradition. One of the ways is to keep on asking your grandparents about the kind of food they ate when they were young.

Here are some pictures to share.
