Canadian Education Fair

The Canadian Education Fair lasted for two days which was on a Tuesday and Wednesday. It was held on the 4th floor in the Rizqun Hotel. We went on the 7th February, which was on a Tuesday. There were about 50 of us excluding the teachers in-charge. We left the school around 1.45pm in a bus and reached our destination at around 2.15pm. When we reached Rizqun Hotel, we had to register ourselves to the people in-charge before we entered and was given a plastic bag with a pamphlet about Universities in Canada. There were also students from other colleges such as MD and Maktab Sains who attended the fair too.

As we enter a room, we were told to sit down and listen to what the speaker had to say about Canada. He showed us a slide show presentation and after that, we were given questions to answer and each winner walks away with a prize. The prizes were caps and shirts with the Canada’s and Brunei’s logo on them. It looked nice and there were a lot of people who won those prizes. It started off quite interesting as we were told details about Canada, which some of us didn’t know about. 

There were representatives from different provinces of Canada to represent each university. We could ask questions about any doubts we have or if we're simply curious about each university like what courses are available, how much are the fees and so on. Each student were given brochures/pamphlets about their respective university. Say you want to take the medicine course, well sadly only the University of Alberta has that course because for the rest of the universities, you’ll need to be a citizen there in order to study medicine but courses like accounting, business or even law are available there so if you want take courses which are not medicine-related, Canada will be a wise choice. 

As we continue our little mini tour, there were refreshments in the center of the room so we could not get ourselves hungry. It was a great day in Rizqun and I think all of us have our doubts cleared about anything universities-related. We left for school at 3.45pm and reached school at 4.00pm. I enjoyed myself and I think all of us enjoyed our little tour too.

Kite Making Workshop

ATTENTION TO ALL PTEK STUDENTS

To those who are interested in kite making, there will be a one day workshop at PTEK's canteen area on Monday, 20th February 2012. This workshop is brought to you by the 'Proud To Be Bruneian' club and the Design & Technology department. 

The workshop will commence at 2.30 pm and the kite making skills will be taught by Hi Masli Hj Dagang  from Ahli Persatuan Perkikik Brunei Muara.

Those who are interested, please bring along $2 to the workshop for the materials needed to make the kite. You  will be provided 1) Strings 2) ' Termiang ' 3) Papers (suitable for kite making). The $2 is to fund these three materials needed for kite making. 

Also, you have to bring your own glue (any form, cellotape to water glue, etc) and a cutter (must be thick, not the thin ones) 

Cikgu Hjh Ainun of 'PTBB' said this workshop is to teach these younger generations how to make their own kite and to play along on the 25th February 2012 for the National Day Celebration in PTEK. 

There will be a competition on the 25th February for those who participate in the workshop. They get to play their own kites and they will be judged based on their designs and best players. Best three designs and best three players will win the competition! Participants will have to make their own kite based on the skills that has been taught during the workshop in a few days time before the competition. So get to work and be creative and create the best looking kite!

Hiking At Tasek Lama

FRIDAY 17th February 2012 – The Jogging and Hiking Club (JHC) from Pusat Tingkatan Enam Katok had its very first hiking of the year at Tasek Lama, Bandar Seri Begawan. It was a cloudy, rainy day. However, this was never a problem for the club members. Printed on the club’s shirts is a quote that says "We jog for exhaustion, we hike for danger" and therefore regardless of the weather, the members of JHC who participated for this exciting journey, 5 teachers and 32 students, still strived determinedly in the rain, to reach the end point of the hike.


At 8.00 a.m., prayer is recited in unison by the members before the hike. Excitement filled each member as they started the journey right away after. Prayer was recited again upon reaching the part of the mountain where slippery steep slopes were seen. The dangerous part of the hike therefore began. Members of the club took their responsibility very seriously with safety as their one and only priority. At 9.30 a.m., everyone proudly crossed the end point in their soaking-wet clothing and with smiles of satisfaction and accomplishment on their faces.

Maulidur Prophet Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wasallam Celebration

Thursday, 16th February 2012 - Maulidur Prophet S.A.W Celebration was held at the MPH, Pusat Tingkatan Enam Katok. All students were involved in this celebration. The purpose of the celebration is to commemorate the event and feel a sense of religious love of the Prophet. At 10.15am, the celebration started off with Ustaz Hj Razali bin Hj Judin reciting Surah Al-Fatihah after the arrival of Ustazah Noor Izzah binti Hj Abidin.

Ustazah Noor Izzah, as the guest speaker of this event, started her talk at 10:30am and finished at around 11.10am. In the content of the talk, she talked about the history of Prophet Rasulullah S.A.W and also suggested practical practices and ways for the students to be closer to Allah and also to show respect and love Prophet Rasulullah S.A.W.

After the talk, souvenirs were given to the guest speaker, Ustazah Noor Izzah, which was presented by the principal, Cikgu Hjh Rosni binti Hj Mohd Amin. At 11.30am, all students and teachers then recited the Dikir Asyrakal together.

Lastly, to finish off this celebration, at 11.40am, Doa Selamat was recited by Ustaz Hj Razali bin Hj Judin.

Assembly

An assembly was held at the assembly point yesterday morning at 8:45 with a speech from the principal herself. The choir group was there to sing the national anthem and the school song. They and all the students and teachers also sang a song titled 'Tanah Airku'. Everyone got in the mood and sang with confidence and passion. Miniature Brunei flags were then given out by the principal to the students as part of the upcoming National Day which is going to be on the 23rd February 2012.

Rugby and Football Match

There will be a four way rugby match tomorrow, 16th February, between PTEM, JIS, ISB and of course, PTEK. It will be held in the afternoon at the field and will start off at 3PM. Don't miss your chance to watch your favourite team play and do come and give your support! 

There will also be a football match on Saturday, 18 February 2012. It is between our own K-Gunners and PTEM's Titans fc. This will also be at PTEK's field and will kick off to a start at 3:30PM. Be there to see who will win the match!

Get To Know The Student Council Members!

To all those who are interested in being part of the student council, you have to have at least 6Os to apply and you will be chosen based on an interview that will be given by the present student council members themselves. In the student council, there is the president, the vice presidents, secretaries, treasurers and committees. The members are assigned to different bureaus with different duties to do. The bureaus are: Biro Keagamaan dan Kerohanian, Bureau of Cleanliness and Refreshment, Bureau of Discipline, Bureau of Public Relation, Bureau of Media and ICT, Bureau of Welfare, Bureau of CCA and last but not least, the Bureau of First Aid. 

As part of the student council, I am very proud to say that we have dedicated a lot of our time and effort to PTEK. We are grateful for what we have learned and experienced from all the duties we do and would like to take some time to thank all the teachers that have been there to guide and help us. We would also like to thank our student council president, Bibi Amadah who has done a big part in her role and has always been a good leader. Being part of the student council in PTEK, we got to learn about things like public speaking, organizing events and also taking huge responsibilities. We are always here to lend a helping hand if needed. Don't be afraid to consult us if there's anything you want to know about the student council and also the school. We are very easy to spot around school as we use a striking blueish-purple skirt for girls and blueish-purple ties for guys. Our pictures are now pinned up according to bureaus on the notice board just outside the examination section for students to get to know us more. Do take a look if you have the time or if you happen to pass by it.

No Repetition Of Victory

On Wednesday, 1st February 2012, Starjan played once again but this time, their opponent was Bebatik XI. It was tough for players of Starjan as they still haven't fully recovered from their fatigue due to the match they had the day before against Veteran. Bebatik XI took advantage of it and went on to win the match with a score of 1-4. They quickly made an impact in PTEKatok even though they lost in their first match against MIC back in January. 

This match started at around 3:00PM. In the first half, the score was 1-2 in favour of Bebatik XI. Azwan scored the first goal for Bebatik XI and his fellow team mate, Wafi scored the second goal, assisted by a wonderful pass from Mienul. Salam, a player from Starjan, got lucky and scored once for his team. 

In the second half, Bebatik XI added 2 goals for their account. Wafi once again scored for Bebatik XI, leaving a score of 1-3 and Udin, another player from the same team, increased the score to 1-4 against Starjan. Mienul once again was there to assist the goal. 

Final score was 1-4 with Bebatik XI in the lead. It was a tough lost for Starjan but at least they lost to an opponent which has higher caliber on that day. Starjan can take positive from this game and hopefully they will come back stronger after this game.

Literature In English (9695)

Students following the A and AS Level English syllabus will study a range of texts in the three main forms: prose, poetry and drama. Set texts are offered from a wide range of different periods and cultures. Students will develop skills of reading and analysis texts, and are encouraged to undertake wider reading to aid understanding of the texts studied. They will learn skills of effective and appropriate communication including the ability to discuss the critical context of texts.

For AS Level, students all only be required to take Paper 3 and 4 for the examination. For A Level, students are required to sit for Paper 3, 4, 5 and 6.

ENTRY TO THIS COURSE will be considered case by case with approval of the Head of Department and the Subject Co-ordinator.

POSSIBLE CAREER PATHS include Law, Journalism, The Media, Management, Inter Relations, Civil Service and Teaching.

Geography trip to the Beach

On 29^th January 2012, Geography & Travel and Tourism students, under Sir Stuart’s and Teacher Ainun’s supervision, had a trip to 3 beaches: Tanjong Batu beach, Muara beach and Serasa beach.

Students got there early at around 6:15AM to assemble before setting off to their first destination, Tanjong Batu beach. When everyone had arrived, they set off at 6:45AM.

It took about 45 minutes to get there. They had to go through a forest, that was quite slippery as there was slight rain before they arrived and they also had to overcome another problem, that is landslide. The landslide left them no choice but to find another way to get to their destination. 

At the beach, they learned about some of the coastal features, explained by Sir Stuart, Teacher Ainun and the two other teachers that had decided to tag along. The students took some time to learn about the beach and its land forms. After that, they decided to go to their next destination, Muara Beach.

At Muara beach, the students stopped to have some breakfast to fill their empty stomachs and after that they assembled themselves at the Singapore memorial sculpture. Sir Stuart did some explaining on that about  the geography topic on tourism to the students.

Then at Serasa beach, Sir Stuart explained to the students about rip rap, something which they learned in Geograpy. There were many facilities and games in serasa beach, for example: the flying fox, kayak, water surfing and many others. Unfortunately, the students didn't have enough time to play but they took some time to buy some food from the merchants there. 

After eating lunch and having fun at Serasa beach, the students went back to the place where they first assembled themselves to make sure everyone was present. They left the place at around 1:00PM.

Overall, the trip was fun yet educational. The next class will be going for trips on the 12^th and 19^th  February, under the supervision of other lecturers.

No Mercy For Veteran

On Tuesday, 31st of January, there was a match between Starjan and Veteran. The match was supposed to start at 3.00PM but due to a shortage of players, the game was delayed for 15 mins. Veteran still had a shortage of players so they had no choice but to borrow 3 players from the opposing team, Starjan. The match was filled with laughter as it was full of fun and suspense.

Veteran opened the score sheet when Izwan Roslan scored the first goal of the match. As they started to build up their momentum, Faisal Mohammad AKA Freezle, scored an equaliser for Starjan. It was his first ever goal in PTEKatok and he was very thrilled with it. The match was tied with 1 goal each for each team. Just then, it got heated up as both team tried to score again. Veteran once again lead the match as Afiq Amsyar scored from the outside of the penalty box. The first half finished off with a score of 2-1 lead by Veteran.

When they got to the second half of the match, Veteran started off strongly. They seemed to already have a definite win in the match as Izwan Roslan scored his second goal for Veteran. It was a lovely solo effort and an amazing pick from Faiz Afif. After leading the game for a while, they couldn't seem to keep up with it as Starjan quickly got ahead of them and scored their second goal through Munim Aji. It was a beautiful chip shot, leaving the keeper out of reach. Starjan equalised the score from a goal by Ilyaas Hadi. Then, Saufi Akmaluddin scored another goal, giving Starjan a lead of the match. The match got to a score of 3-5 when Ilyaas Hadi scored once more for Starjan. As the game was about to come to an end, Fairus got lucky and scored the spotkick with a beautifully executed penalty which they got from a handball by Veteran's defender.

The match came to an end with a score of 3-6 with Starjan in the lead. It was a completely enjoyable match to watch. The highlight of the match was Syafiq Sahrani and Masduqi, players of Starjan who both played solidly for Veteran. This game was referreed by Khairun Akmal.

Registration for exams results via SMS starts Feb 1

THE Ministry of Education (MoE) will be releasing the examination results for November 2011 IGCSE, B-C GCE 'O', 'AS', & 'A' level through Short Messaging Service (SMS).

Subscribers (students and parents) who wishes to subscribe to the services are required to register online through the ministry's web portal at www.moe.edu.bn and e-Darussalam at www.gov.bn

Registration can also be made through mobile phones via SMS by keying in the the following text: MOE REG [CENTRE CODE] [CANDIDATE NUMBER] [IC No] and send to 8885555 for DST subscribers or 38666 for B-Mobile subscribers.

Subscribers can register for the services starting Wednesday, February 1, 2012, a press statement from the ministry said yesterday. It also said that no charges would be applied for registration through the Ministry of Education's web portal or mobile phones.

The Ministry of Education is providing the service in collaboration with DST Communications Sdn Bhd (DST), B-Mobile Communication Sdn Bhd (B-Mobile) and Mach Telecommunications Systems Sdn Bhd (MachTel).

The ministry also informed the public that the examination results will only be sent to subscribers via SMS upon approval from the Department of Examinations. Subscribers will be charged $3 for each SMS result received.

With this service, the ministry hopes that it will benefit the members of the public especially parents and the stakeholders in general, the statement read.
